Chocolate Souffle
When things are unpredictable or disturbing or unsettling, I turn to… food.

Delicious textures and rich smells that melt any bad mood…

You mix ingredients, toss them, whip them, chop them and then cook/bake/grill … and its born – a piece of perfection! A piece of heaven on earth which will make you feel good; and not lie, betray, accuse or sue you! (Yes, I have had a rough week!) The last recipe I tried was Chocolate souffle and I highly recommend it on a day when nothing else seems to go your way…

The comfortable familiarity of tastes and for excitement you can add a twist of something (not a risk that will change your destiny!) and rediscover your tastebuds all over again. A kitchen is among my favourite places in a home and it is also the place where many gems of advice have been handed to me. Don’t you agree that it is actually the most creative part of a home where creation occurs three or more times a day? As a kid I’d plonk myself on the kitchen counter while Amma was busy with the cooking. She is the organised type who knows exactly how many spoons of what go in when. I am the disorganised type who puts in whatever I feel like whenever I please! I admit results can be quite unexpected (a mild word for disastrous) but most of the time, its worth the risk🙂

Yesterday a filmmaker friend who is settling into domesticity rang me… I realised she is going through the rough newlywed phase when you want to attain that perfection in your work and homefront that seems to come easy to everyone else. Easy? NO WAY! But we try… its in our genes, our memories and our families. No matter how new-age our philosophies are, there are times when we  tend to lapse back into traditional roles. Am quite far from an ideal homemaker but a home it is…

  2. oh yes!!! and depending on one’s lifestyle.. the recipe may change… but be it a bajji or a souffle.. the feeling is the same! I read this post in email notification before……just made palpayasam and remembered your blog.. so logged in to comment… Happy Vishu!

  3. I am also of the same opinion. Food is really an antidote to stress. When I am tensed by my exams or exam results, I simply make my favourite dish onion pancake ( uthappam ; I don’t know the english for our homely foods. ) and some of my tension ebbs away.

    Another method which I try is yoga. I am not a master or even a student in yoga but I do know some basic breathing exercises which are very effective.

(so thats why i didnt get my sunday update eh?) there’s yet another lovely way to bust stress, which i shall soon share with you🙂 agree 100% abt the joys of being in the kitchen, working magic with colourful veggies. agree 100% also abt not sticking meticulously to recipes, the way they are meant to be. the only trouble i face is, once i rustle up sthg that manages to be a delight, i seldom can repeat it😀 guess its all to do with being inspired!

  5. It is strange…..there was this friend of mine, who is the best example to ‘tag’ COOL. An avid party goer, she is always there for weekend parties, ladies only nights. and she used to tell me how unplanned her life is -no savings, no concern, nothing. 2 weeks b4 she decided to marry the guy she was dating and hey presto! there she is. totally changed in a matter of days.Now she is practicing with her mom on preparing dishes and experimenting on poor souls like us. but whatever may be, the ease with which she is getting into her role, its surprising, though i don’t know how long it will last……traditional roles and genes….any connection?
